  • ART THERAPY

    Creativity is your birthright!

    WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

    .

You don’t have to be an artist to participate in art therapy. Daring to take a risk, by making a mark on paper, wedging clay, or finding a magazine collage image to paste down, you get to begin a process of accessing creativity, of welcoming spontaneity. Doing so, you might discover that you might not have had the words to describe your pain, your story, but now, using a metaphor, the words arrive to do the telling. Sometimes, when we are traumatized, we end up feeling isolated even as we yearn for connection. Art in any form helps us with expression that serves to connect us to community. You are no longer alone.

  • PAINTING FROM THE HEART

    Creativity is joy!

HOW TO PAINT FROM THE HEART?

    .

You don’t have to be an artist to participate in creativity. A painting starts from a single dot, a single stroke, a single mark. Taking the risk to make the mark is the first step. Being in touch with the feelings and sensations in your body offer the perfect impulse to match a color to them, use the brush loaded with that color to make marks that fit those feelings, those sensations. When you continue to proceed in this way, images may arise. Your job is to stay open to these impulses, images and keep trusting that your hand knows its way, that your heart’s experience is unfolding. You will be helped to keep judgment, criticism, demands for meaning or perfection at bay so you can stay true to the process of painting from your heart.

  • SOMATIC EXPERIENCING

Our bodies don’t lie. Just as they might hold on to stress, they are also designed to release it, once acknowledged.
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a method for the treatment of trauma that is based in the belief that the nervous system is inherently capable of healing. In the face of trauma, big or small, the natural rhythm of the nervous system gets interrupted or blocked which manifests as symptoms of traumatic stress. By attending to the soma, or body, and its myriad sensations, the body is helped to gradually release the trauma and thereby come back to a state of balance with its natural rhythms restored.

I am a certified somatic experiencing practitioner (SEP).

  • Couples Therapy

Couples deserve the help to restore the safe haven in their intimate partnership. As we hurt in relationship, so we heal in relationship. The safe haven is built on a foundation of attunement along with principles of fairness, justice, sensitivity, collaboration and true mutuality. The movement from misattunement to attunement is the journey of couples therapy.
I also consult with couples who may be on the brink of separation or divorce. These couples may need help to make a concerted and discerned decision about the path forward.

Mindfulness: How to Meditate

Meditation helps with emotion regulation
Benefits for individuals and couples

Advances in understanding the brain helps us recognize how we do emotion and relationships: when we are mindful of how we feel, we can make better choices and come back to calmness quickly and effectively. When we are calm we can repair relationships more easily. Emotion regulation helps us understand how we maintain relationships in our families and in our partnerships and how we manage conflict to fight for relationship rather than against it. Meditation is one strategy to help us become aware and compassionate towards ourselves, which helps us extend compassion towards others.

The video above is the result of what I have learned from the teachings of Jon Kabat Zinn, Pema Chodron, Jack Kornfield, and Tara Brach.
